Why do this?

Since Damon was about 6, he was always fascinated with airplanes.  He only lived about 3 miles from Brookside Airport as a child, a small airport that had a 3000' paved, and a 2000' grass runway. The left down wind to base leg went right over his house. He saw many small general aviation aircraft and made the promise to himself that one day he would be flying one of those planes. As Damon got older he started building stick and tissue rubber powered planes. Then he flew glow powered control line planes for many years.

The first plane Damon flew in was a ATA DC-10 to the Worlds Fair, at 35,000' Damon knew he had to get his pilots license, But that took another 9 years. In the meantime Damon started flying radio controlled (RC) aircraft and he knew that this would be a way to start designing and test flying his own aircraft designs. Now at 45, Damon has a blast designing, constructing and flying his own designs and building half scale aircraft of rare flying machines. Damon was fascinated with the aircraft built from the 40's, 50's, and 60's.

The term scratch building means making all of the parts yourself "from scratch". That way you can design airframes that a model manufacturer may never see worth the investment.

Today Damon is enjoying designing for scratch building and constructing planes that were legends, The B-29, B-36, The Pitts S-1, T-28, and one day a turbine powered XB-70.

Damon believes everything he does is really a job towards the fulfillment of his and his families life. He has a company that pays the bills, but he looks at everything he does as a job, his family and friends.  He may only spend 3 or 4 hours a week working on aviation, and it might take 3 years to build a plane that should have taken anyone else 6 months, but it is all a job to him and he loves it.
